Digital Twin No.3, Application of Digital Twin in NFLOW

This is E8IGHT, a company developing particle-based CFD Software NFLOW.
Today we brought the final part of the series Digital Twin!
We are going to look into the application of Digital Twin in NFLOW and get to know the tremendous potential of Digital Twin.
NFLOW has advantage based on its particle-based strengths and it can extract data easily where mesh-based software has difficulty with. For example, NFLOW can obtain basic data in situations that require analysis of irregular and complex fluid movements such as rainfall situations. It can also quickly prepare for a variety of modeling and accumulate data rapidly. As a result, it can build a predictive system through machine learning by testing numerous environmental situations and continuously extract data. By applying real-world environmental conditions to AI with machine learning, you’ll be able to determine the lifespan or replacement cycles of the products and facilities under these circumstances in advance. The same applies to urban design and civil engineering, including smart cities.

Through digital twin, all analysis is possible from macroscopic to microscopic analysis of specific areas of smart cities. For example, in the macroscopic analysis, installing fine dust meter and wind speed / direction meter near smart city can predict the amount and time of fine dust passing through a specific area that reaches the city center.
Therefore, various data collection devices can be installed in the area far from the city center to perform machine learning based on the accumulated simulation data and digital twin can be used to operate the preparation or prevention system before the fine dust arrives in the city center.

It is possible to know the section where the fine dust flows and congestion is made and can increase the efficiency of positioning the fine dust purifier. Finally, microscopic simulation of the fine purifier itself can be used to maximize the efficiency of the purifier at the design stage.
Isn’t it amazing?

NFLOW’s advantage is even better in the field of disaster. Natural disasters, such as tsunamis and floods, are almost impossible to simulate due to various causes so the simulation itself is difficult. But NFLOW, a particle-based CFD software that is specialized in large-scale analysis and has strengths in free surface analysis can simulate the situation of disasters wonderfully. By simulation various situations of a disaster we get to know the golden time, damage scale and it can be applied when designing a prevention system.

( Umyeon Mountain Landslide Simulation by NFLOW )
There is a case of Busan’s Eco Delta City in which NFLOW has simulated the situation of a tsunami. The video below shows the actual tsunami simulation of Eco Delta City.
The case of this large-scale analysis with CFD software is hard to find! As shown in the video NFLOW is not affected by the scale and complexity so it is possible to construct a prevention system that can respond quickly to disasters by repeatedly simulating under different conditions. So far, we have looked at how to apply and utilize digital twin in NFLOW. There are so many other applications and connections we can make with NFLOW and digital twin, but we'll finish it here.
E8IGHT will strive to develop and share technology that makes the world a better place.
Thank you.
